Today, kitchens are no longer just a place where you prepare meals. They are a hub for entertaining guests, relaxing with the family and perhaps even studying or enjoying play time with the kids. It’s important to really consider the design of your new kitchen as part of a side return extension project, since it’s likely a lot of time will be spent in this room!
Kitchen designs can be very expensive, so it’s essential to think about which parts you need to spend more money on, and parts that you may be able to spend less. At Build Team we want you to get the best value for money for your project, and are happy to advise on the best options for your kitchen design.
We believe you don’t need to spend a fortune on kitchen cabinets. Reputable suppliers, like IKEA and Howdens, can also provide well made, durable and attractive looking cabinets for reasonable prices. They also offer cabinets catering to all tastes, from a brightly coloured modern feel to rustic, country kitchen style. Meaning you can find your perfect kitchen cabinet without breaking the bank!
Choosing the right worktop for your kitchen is important. We would advise investing a bit more when it comes to making this decision, and expert advice and fitting may be needed. Granite worktops cost more, they will lend a touch of luxury to your kitchen and will never go out of fashion. They are also very low maintenance, can withstand high temperatures, are water resistant and impervious to most stains. Composite worktops are also very durable and practical and will add the wow factor to a modern kitchen. Cheaper alternatives come in the form of wooden worktops and laminate surfaces. However, wooden worktops need a lot of maintenance and are prone to staining. Laminate surfaces will eventually deteriorate once water has got in along the edges. Investing a little more in granite and composite options is definitely worth it!

Finally, we would also recommend investing in good quality kitchen appliances, as they will add the finishing touch and should be long-lasting, giving you good value for money.
Larger appliances, such as an American-style fridge freezer, might be something to consider if you have a large family. They offer more capacity and longer preservation of food. If you enjoy entertaining and are a keen cook then it would be worth investing in a double oven, giving you more versatility.
It’s worthwhile spending some time thinking about how you will divide up your kitchen design budget and hopefully we have given you some inspiration here!
